Honey and the Environment

As consumers become more discerning and the appetite for "natural foods" increases globally, so does the request for honey. But the honey industry is suffering a devastating blow.

POPPIES

Like butterflies, bees are extrememly sensitive to environmental conditions and pollutants. In recent years, honey harvests have been decimated because of the use of neonicotinoids substances in sunflowers and agricultural crops. These pesticides are produced by the big chemical industries and have been widely used to make the crops more resistant to insects. However, the neonicotinoids have a toxic and lethal effect on bees. In the past few years bees population in Europe and America have been decimated by 40%.
Environmental conditions and pollutants

This has had disastrous consequences for bee keepers and has had the side effects to push the price of honey upward for the scarcity of supply. Beyond the honey production, bees have the crucial task of impollinating flowers and plants, without which, the food chain would collapse. Their role in the delicate balance of nature and biodiversity could not be more vital and must be protected at all costs.

Happy Beekeeper
The globally known AVAAZ social network has championed a world campaign collecting over 1 million signatures to lobby governments to make the use of neonicotinoids illegal.
